Mr. Right: Movie Review

Combining rom-com with murder is funny but also inane nonsense.
A romantic comedy and a hit-man murder-fest. Comedy, sure, and with Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell, you’ve got the romance, chemistry, and quirky comedy to boot. If anybody can sell this violent, insane, romantic Mr. Right hero, it’s Sam Rockwell. He is fantastic. It’s just that the plot is so far-fetched and complete nonsense, that it’s just too hard to find him or this story interesting. 2015

Directed by: Paco Cabezas

Screenplay by: Max Landis

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Sam Rockwell

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

Annoying feminists vs great original characters.

Neighbors 2 went for a slightly different formula for a comedy sequel than the Hollywood norm of just make everything bigger and bolder. Neighbors 2 added new characters with a specific purpose: add a message and bring in a new audience. With the subtitle “Sorority Rising”, the message is one of feminism, and with new characters including Chloe Grace Moretz as an atypical sorority girl, the new audience is college-aged girls. 2016

Directed by: Nicholas Stoller

Screenplay by: Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O'Brien, Nicholas Stoller, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen

Juno: Movie Review

Can't live up to its undeserving expectations.

The problem with Juno is Juno. Juno (Ellen Page) is our main character, a high school teenager that gets pregnant. Shenanigans, as she says, emanate. I adhere to the school of thought that main characters should be likable, or that we can at least relate to or empathize with in some way, but Juno doesn't inhabit any qualities of a good character.   2007

Directed by: Jason Reitman

Screenplay by: Diablo Cody

Starring: Ellen Page, Michael Cera
